MoleSense™
The software can remove hair from images:

Figure 1: Removing hair from images.
Software approach to hair removal: When removing hair from an image, the
software replaces any hair color pixel with the average color of any pixels
around it which are not hair.
Procedure for removing hair:
First, you need to select the hair color in the image.
Then, you ask the software to remove it.
1. On the Analyze menu, point to Size and
select Rectangle. The cursor changes to a cross-hair.
2. Draw a rectangle over the mole that you want to analyze (figure 2).

4. In the Color Filter dialog box click the Hair
Removal
Settings button. This will adjust the settings of the dialog box for hair
color selection.
Procedure for dark hair
5. Click the Darkest Colors button. The pixels that contain the darkest colors
will be colored/selected.
6. Keep clicking the Next Color button until all
(or most) of the hair is selected, but no non-hair (e.g. skin) pixels are selected (figure
4). If you are unable to select all the hair in the rectangle without selecting
non-hair pixels, you can divide the mole area into two or three different
rectangles (figure 5).
Continue with step 7 below.
Procedure for white/blonde hair
5. Click the Brightest Colors button. The pixels
that contain the brightest colors will be colored/selected.
6. Keep clicking the Previous Color button until
all (or most) of the hair is selected, but no non-hair (e.g. skin) pixels are selected
(figure 4). If you are unable to select all the hair in the rectangle without
selecting non-hair pixels, you can divide the mole area into two or three
different rectangles (figure 5).
